'Happy Days' by Samuel Beckett
Act I
Act II
'Not I' by Samuel Beckett
'Not I' was performed as a curtain raiser to the main show 'Happy Days' - this caused a number of logistical issues given the size of our stage!
'Not I' took place in a pitch-black auditorium illuminated only by a single beam of light. This spotlight fixes on an actress's mouth about eight feet above the stage, everything else being blacked out.
Curtains open to show the 'Not I' rig (made of scaffolding) in which the actress was 'clamped'; the whole rig was wheeled off (curtains fully closed) with the actor still in it after the performance to make room for the 'Happy Days' to be wheeled into place...
The 'Happy Days' set design was featured on J&C Joel's website as a Project Profile...
